After two years of basketball season on hiatus, the gym was again filled with the familiar sounds of feet running up and down the court. Coaches and players were thrilled to be back in the gym, although it took some time adjusting to what we commonly refer to as the “new normal” of COVID.
“This year was our first back following COVID after the season was postponed. Kids had to get used to playing with no fans in the stands, no parents, and playing in masks,” shared Damian Crosby, Basketball Coach and P.E. Teacher.
Despite the new guidelines, the players were motivated to give this season their best effort and worked well together. The team’s hard work led to an undefeated season of 8 wins! SF Day went head to head with Stuart Hall in the championship game, gaining a victory with a win of 50 to 39.
“It was a great season! We had such a talented team and believed we could go all the way,” said Coach Crosby.
This year makes the third championship win for SF Day boys basketball; the last championship win was back in 2008. This season was even more memorable for Coach Crosby as this marks the end of a family era in SF Day athletics.
“One of our players is the fourth sibling I’ve coached in athletics, and he’s graduating this year. Sending him out of SF Day athletics with a championship win makes this win even more special.”
