2022-23 Parents Association Volunteer Form

Welcome! There are many ways to share your time and passion with the SF Day community, one of which is volunteering through our Parents Association. Please indicate your interest on this form, and don’t worry, at this stage it’s interest, not a commitment.

Get ready to be creative and have fun supporting our young SF Day artists and the amazing Art Department faculty. Parent/guardian volunteers may: support art faculty in the classroom, assist with organization of supplies and works in progress, display artwork around SF Day, or even run a station during art class. Yes! Let’s make some art.
Community Outreach coordinates with various community organizations to provide opportunities for even our youngest students and their families to engage with and support our San Francisco community. Group volunteer events and other charitable opportunities have been offered in partnership with: SF Rec & Parks, North of Panhandle Neighborhood Association, Department of Public Works, Mercy Terrace and Zygmunt Arendt House, St Anthony’s Foundation, The Children’s Book Project, Haight Ashbury Food Program, and The Surfrider Foundation. Community Outreach also partners with SF Day’s Director of Service Learning to facilitate our school’s chapter of the Lunchmakers, in which students prepare bagged lunches for unhoused and other hungry people served by GLIDE.
One of SF Day’s most beloved traditions is Family Photo Night, which takes place at school in the fall. On photo night, volunteers keep things running smoothly and help families find their photographer’s temporary SF Day “studio.” Later, volunteers hang family photos throughout the school for our community to enjoy.
Every year, SF Day invites grandparents and special friends of our students to join their young friends for a special morning at school. Volunteers assist with the planning and execution of GPSF Day, which will be held in early 2023.
Do you love to help make people feel welcome? Are you a party planner extraordinaire? Volunteers with Hospitality & Celebrations plan and execute events such as the Parents Association coffees, and Friday Faculty & Staff Breakfasts to honor SF Day's faculty, staff & administration!
IDEA offers the SF Day community a space to learn and share how each of our members contributes to and enriches our school. Volunteers with IDEA work together to plan events that: (1) further our connection to each other; (2) deepen our understanding of how DEI is essential to the development of critical thinking and empathy in our student body, and (3) educate ourselves to partner with the school to be better learners with our children.
Love books? Our library staff rely on parent/guardian volunteers to assist with reshelving all those books our kids are reading! In addition, volunteers assist librarians each year with the Fall Festival and Book Fair, which celebrate the community’s love of reading and also raises funds for our beloved library.
Room Parents are community leaders who: support our teachers; communicate with their classes about SF Day events and activities; create an inclusive and welcoming community; and foster a culture of volunteerism. In addition, other specific Room Parent responsibilities vary by grade, and all RPs are part of the Room Parent Council. Interest, experience and a record of volunteerism are important factors in assigning Room Parents. Please note that due to the small number of RP positions available each year (2 to 4 per grade), not every interested parent/guardian will be asked to fill this role.
Our school store is undergoing a (virtual) renovation and we can’t wait to share the new merchandise with the community. Volunteers will work together to assist with assembly and distribution of orders.
SF Day Fest is our biggest community-building and fundraising event. Held each spring, all funds raised benefit the discounted tuition program (except for an additional special area of interest identified each year that is supported by Raise The Paddle). There are a variety of different volunteer opportunities connected with SF Day Fest, and they all offer a great ways to get involved and meet other parents/guardians outside your grade level(s)!

We are grateful for your interest in volunteering with the SF Day Parents Association and look forward to welcoming more parent/guardian volunteers back on campus. In the meantime, please reach out to PA president Laura Brown at laura@moonspider.com with any questions. Thank you!
