Following are three sample scenarios (Family A, B, and C) for your reference, based on the tuition for 2021-22.  Although every family's situation is unique, we hope these help to provide some context. 

Sample Scenario Based on Tuition from 2020-21 School Year

Adjusted Tuition is a reduced tuition available to qualifying families in need of support to cover the full cost of tuition. Each family is expected to pay a minimum of 5 percent of the tuition cost.

1. Why did SF Day School choose Clarity? 

   We have chosen Clarity as our Adjusted Tuition application provider in order to better serve both our current and prospective families. We are confident that this change is going to make the process of applying for Adjusted Tuition easier for families. 
    

2. How does Clarity make it easier for me to apply for Adjusted Tuition?

   Clarity offers a streamlined, mobile friendly application that can be completed in as short a time as 20 minutes. Additionally, Clarity removes the need to upload your 2022 W2 and 1040 by transferring them directly from the IRS. This reduces the amount of information that you will need to enter manually and makes it possible to complete the application quickly and efficiently. 
    

3. Is my information secure with Clarity?

   SF Day School takes the privacy and security of your personal information very seriously. Clarity is certified for both GDPR and SOC2 and uses enterprise-level security standards including end-to-end encryption of all personally identifiable information. 4. How will this impact my award? 

   Just as in prior years, if your financial circumstances have not changed, you will not see significant changes to your award. If you have any questions about your individual circumstance, please reach out to us. 
    

5. Will I still need to apply every year?

   Yes, you will need to submit a Clarity application each year in order to qualify for financial aid; however, Clarity retains your information from previous applications, so it will be even easier to reapply.
    

6. Can I complete my Clarity application on my phone or tablet?

   Yes! Clarity’s application is fully mobile-friendly so you have access wherever you are.
    

7. What is the cost to use Clarity?
   
   For families, Clarity charges $60 to apply. Clarity automatically waives application fees for families whose income falls below a certain threshold. As a demonstration of our commitment to access, our income caps for automatic fee waivers are the highest in the industry. One fee covers all students, and the application can be sent to any school accepting Clarity.

The Adjusted Tuition Committee is comprised of SF Day administrators and is chaired by the Chief Financial Officer. 

Your awards are based on your financial information each year.  If your income and tax situation does not vary significantly year to year, you can expect to see the same percentage adjustment each year.  If your financial situation changes, your award may be increased or decreased accordingly.

Yes. Because Adjusted Tuition decisions are re­viewed each year, families receiving adjustments must submit a PFS and income tax statements each year to establish ability to pay for the next academic year.

Families receiving a tuition adjustment also qualify for the same adjustment on AEP (Afterschool Enrichment Program), as well as any tutoring services recom­mended by our Learning Specialists.

The required information and forms not sub­mitted in a timely manner, the amount of funds budgeted for Adjusted Tuition, and the level of need among all families applying for aid in a given year.

San Francisco Day School requires complete financial information from both the custodial and non-custodial par­ents, including the Parents’ Financial Statement form and tax forms. This information is collect­ed in an attempt to determine the ability, not the willingness, of each parent to financially support his or her child’s education. If the whereabouts of the non-custodial parent are unknown, a good faith effort must be made to locate him or her. If the custodial parent has remarried, SF Day will consider the assets of the stepparent, always bearing in mind the obligation of the stepparent to his or her own children.
