Community, Culture & Engagement
At SF Day, the Office of Community, Culture & Engagement is dedicated to nurturing young citizens of the world who are thoughtful, action-oriented, and socially-responsible. Through our curriculum of intentional, developmentally appropriate community engagement, we help build leaders who are equipped to promote positive change on campus, in the Bay Area, and beyond. Through our work, we foster a school community of inclusivity, engagement, leadership, and service.
Throughout the year, our students have numerous opportunities to experience learning outside of the classroom through meaningful engagement and service-learning projects with community partners throughout the city of San Francisco during our Community Engagement Days. We introduce our students to new people, new challenges, and the joy of doing hands-on work that benefits our community and helps each student to recognize a world outside themselves, giving them a global perspective and preparing them to be leaders.
The Office of Community, Culture & Engagement also supports the school/family partnership with on-campus events, bringing families together, which strengthens our relationships and builds a cohesive school community.
The CCE Educational Journey
Our Community Engagement programming starts in kindergarten with an examination of the world immediately around our youngest students — an example of meeting them where they are. As the journey continues, our students venture beyond their classrooms to make connections in their city and the entire Bay Area.
How Community, Culture & Engagement Thrives at SF Day
Community Engagement Days
Our students participate in four community engagement days during the school year dedicated to service and learning about their communities. Students participate in projects related to each grade level's curriculum, venturing out into the Bay Area to learn and make a difference
Affinity Circles
At SF Day, we create space for students of similar backgrounds and identities to meet and get to know one another. Through facilitated affinity circles, students have a chance to learn, share, and feel a sense of belonging.
All-School Gatherings
We take pride in the strength of our textured SF Day community, and provide inclusive opportunities for our community to come together. These opportunities include
- Inviting families to select Friday assemblies
- Hosting Parent/Guardian Socials
- Facilitating Open Fridays, when parents/guardians are invited into classrooms to see their children in their learning environments.
