I'm so glad you're here!

San Francisco Day School was founded more than 40 years ago with a bold vision: to create an exceptional coeducational school where intellectual challenge goes hand-in-hand with a deep understanding of ourselves and others, to build a school rooted in San Francisco and connected to the life of our city, and to create a community that truly supports our children, families, and educators.

Those founding commitments still shape who we are today.

We believe in the power of learning and growing together. At SF Day, intellectual excellence is about more than what students know. It’s about how they think: asking great questions, testing ideas, making connections, taking risks, and learning from perspectives beyond their own. Our exceptional teachers know their students deeply and create classrooms where children are both supported and stretched — where curiosity is taken seriously, challenge is welcomed, and students develop the confidence and habits of mind to become lifelong learners.

We believe the city is part of the classroom. San Francisco has been central to SF Day from the beginning. Our students learn from this extraordinary city — its people, neighborhoods, cultures, institutions, challenges, and possibilities — and discover that they have a role to play in the communities around them.

And we believe education is a shared endeavor. Children thrive when the adults around them are connected, collaborative, and invested in their growth. At SF Day, families and educators are partners in the work of knowing, challenging, and championing each child and in building a community where all of us continue to learn and grow.

When I meet SF Day alumni, I see the lasting impact of this education: young people who are confident in their own voices and genuinely interested in the voices of others. They know who they are, they know how to be part of a community, and they are ready to engage with the world around them.

That is what we want for every SF Day student: to be challenged and known, confident and curious, grounded in who they are and open to who they might become.
