Teaching Fellows Program

The Teaching Fellow program at SF Day School supports aspiring and early career teachers to deepen their understanding of curriculum and child development, gain practical experience with building and fostering connected and supportive classroom communities, and to try out various pedagogical practices and frameworks. Additionally, this program is an opportunity to become a member of a dynamic educational community, and to develop a professional self. Within the wider SF Day community, Teaching Fellows have many opportunities to make connections that support their professional and personal growth.

Teaching Fellows work closely with a Lead Teacher. The dynamic relationship between Lead Teacher and Teaching Fellow allows for continual reflection on best practices and clarity on the why’s and how’s of teaching and learning at SF Day. This reflection and clarity supports a rich, joyful, and intentional learning environment for our students as well as our teachers..

Collaboration and Mentorship

Teaching Fellow role is a collaborative one. First and foremost, between the Teaching Fellow and Lead Teacher. Additionally, there is extensive collaboration with teachers at the grade level. Within their classroom, the Teaching Fellows support with lesson planning, teaching, and student assessment. They participate in parent-teacher conferences and progress report writing.

Teaching Fellows Cohort

The Teaching Fellows work with the cohort of other Teaching Fellows. They meet weekly, diving into various topics related to being a teacher at SF Day specifically, and within education more broadly. They have opportunities to learn from members of the SF Day teaching community, as well as from one another.

Reflective Practice

Receiving feedback on their teaching practice is an essential component of the Teaching Fellow Program. Teaching Fellows are regularly observed with students.
